    Este artículo recupera el alcance y los límites del debate entre Florencia Mallon y John Beverley, sobre el enfoque de subalternidad y poscolonialidad en América Latina. El autor destaca los puntos de vista, los problemas teóricos y epistemológicos desarrollados por ambos académicos. Afirma que el problema de fondo es la dificultad de representar al subalterno en el discurso disciplinario. Existe una asimetría y un límite epistemológico y ético entre la posición del historiador o del crítico literario y la del subalterno. Además, estos debates -según el autor- tienen que ver con la problemática del locus de enunciación y de las implicaciones de si se habla “desde” o “sobre” América Latina. El enfoque subalternista no solo amplía el espacio para la comprensión de la acción, iniciativa y la agencia del subalterno, sino también permite esbozar programas de investigación alternativos que den cuenta con mayor agudeza y complejidad analítica la tensión entre la práctica y el discurso académico (escritura de la historia) y la experiencia histórica de las clases subalternas.

    This article recovers the reach and the limits of the debatebetween Florencia Mallon and John Beverley, on thesubalternity focus and postcoloniality in Latin America. Theauthor highlights the points of view, the epistemological andtheoretical problems developed by both academics. He affirmsthat the bottom problem is the difficulty of representing thesubaltern in the disciplinary speech. It exists an asymmetry and epistemological and ethical limit among the historian’sposition or of the literary critic and the subaltern. Besides,these debates -according to the author - have to do with theproblem of the enunciation locus and of the implications of ifone speaks «from» or «about» Latin America. The subaltern focusnon alone enlarges the space for the understanding of theaction, initiative and the agency of the subaltern, it also allowsto sketch alternative investigation programs that give withbigger sharpness and analytic complexity the tension betweenthe practice and the academic speech (the writing of history)and the historical experience of the subaltern classes.
