    • The School-Work Alternation (dual-training indicated in Italy with the acronym ASL, alternanza scuola-lavoro) is a methodology that has taken on an innovative teaching role (developing transversal skills through the use of learning-by-doing), an orientational role (directing the students to a conscious choice at the conclusion of their study course) and a professionalizing role (by acquiring professional skills) also in high schools as well as in technical and vocational schools of Italian secondary education in the European context (Kamkhagi, 2017). In Italy, the Law n. 107/2015 established the compulsory route for all students in the second two-year period and the last year of second-level secondary school. This is in compliance with the European guidelines on education and training “Europe 2020, A strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth” and with the objectives indicated by the 2030 UN agency that require the reform of school systems as well as orientational and dual-training activities (School-Work Alternation). These have been given an indispensable role to improve school performance, combat rising inequalities and supporting a development that values the skills and aspirations of young people.
