Dotar de una nación al Estado constituyó una ardua tarea que atravesó el siglo XIX y se prolongó en el XX. Para la conformación de una memoria colectiva, con sentimientos de pertenencia y asociada al patriotismo se utilizaron, entre otros instrumentos, los libros de texto. Estos manuales inventariaron lo que había que saber sobre la Argentina y difundieron un relato identificatorio, ocupando un espacio significativo en el establecimiento de una visión compartida de la historia nacional. Es recurrente en textos de diferentes autores y momentos de edición el tratamiento destacado del Cabildo. Por tanto, es objetivo de este trabajo revisar las menciones y explicaciones relativas a los Cabildos presentadas en los libros de textos en uso en las escuelas argentinas entre 1860 y 1930, para establecer las características e importancia que se les otorgó en la época colonial, en el periodo revolucionario y en la posterior organización del Estado.

To endow the State with a Nation was the hardest task we had to go through along the 19th and 20th centuries. Textbooks were used, among other sources, for the consolidation of a collective memory with a sense of belonging and embedded in patriotism. These textbooks compiled what we needed to learn about Argentina and spread an identifying story, which occupied a significant place in the development of a shared vision of national history. The Cabildo took a significant place in textbooks from different writers and different editions. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to review the entries and explanations concerning the city Councils presented in textbooks used in Argentinian schools between 1860 and 1930, to establish the characteristics and importance given to them in colonial times, in the Independence Wars’ period and the subsequent organization of the state.
