This paper compares two approaches to the use of the European Language Portfolio (ELP) in the subjects of English for Business Communication and English for Public Administration Management. The ELP in the first approach differed from the second in that it was closely related to the subject objectives; it was fully integrated within the syllabus and strongly focused on error correction. The ELP in the second approach served both as a record of the past English learning achievements and as a collection of subject-related and free writing assignments. Both approaches to the ELP proved to be efficient ways to increase students’ motivation as well as their awareness of the learning process.
