The paper compares the General English (GE) competence of undergraduate students of business with their Business English (BE) performance. We first describe the course syllabus and the teaching procedure. The results of the research carried out in 2007/2008 are then provided, showing the entry and exit levels of the students' GE (as assessed by the Oxford Placement Test), the trends observed in the students' BE grades and a comparison of the two competences (GE vs. BE).
