    La reconversión de edificios históricos en museos se considera, en algunas ocasiones, como una solución arriesgada por los problemas que puede plantear esta acción al tratarse de un inmueble protegido, pues debe respetarse en su integridad. No obstante, con ejemplos como el del Palazzo Altemps como sede del Museo Nazionale Romano, en la capital italiana, se evidencia una correcta solución.

    La necesidad originada durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX de ampliar y reorganizar las colecciones impulsó la adquisición de este edificio. Tanto su museología como su museografía han sido planteadas teniendo en cuenta, en todo momento, el tipo de colección a exponer junto con la tipología del edificio que la iba a albergar, estableciendo así un caso concreto de perfecta sincronía entre contenedor y contenido. A lo largo del recorrido, bajo las líneas renacentistas y barrocas que caracterizan este palacio urbano, se exponen piezas de la Roma clásica que transportan al espectador en el tiempo. Desde 2006, ocasión de su última remodelación, se puede contemplar por todas sus salas una colección escultórica que no solo sorprende al visitante por su calidad estética sino también por su carácter histórico.

    The reconversion of historic buildings into museums is considered to be, in some cases, a risky solution due to the problems that this action can pose to its being a protected edifice, for its integrity must be respected. However, a correct solution is evidenced with examples like the Palazzo Altemps as the foundation of the Museo Nazionale Romano, in the Italian capital. The need, caused during the second half of the 20th Century, to extend and reorganize the collections encouraged the acquisition of this building. Both its museology and its museography have been outlined keeping constantly in mind the type of the exhibited collection as well as the typology of the building set for its accommodation, establishing in this way a concrete case of perfect synchrony between container and content. Along the way, under Renaissance and Baroque tines that characterize this urban palace, the spectator is transported in time through the exhibited pieces of classic Rome. Since the occasion of its last remodeling in 2006, we can contemplate through all of its rooms a sculptural collection that not only surprises the visitor for its aesthetic quality but also for its historical character.
