Resumen de Educación, ética y cambio climático

  La alteración antrópica del clima terrestre constituye el principal reto para la humanidad en el siglo XXI. De cómo se actúe en la próxima década dependerá que se pueda minimizar su impacto sobre la civilización humana actual. Las respuestas y las herramientas educativas habrán de formar parte de las políticas de mitigación y adaptación frente a la crisis climática, tal y como se reconoce en los organismos y las declaraciones internacionales. Este reto obliga a replantear el marco ético de la praxis educativa para cuestionar la sustentabilidad ambiental y social de los valores centrales que han guiado el desarrollo humano desde el inicio de la modernidad. La crisis climática cuestiona de forma radical la identificación entre crecimiento y desarrollo. También pone de manifiesto que la condición eco-dependiente de nuestra especie ha sido ignorada en aras de una noción de progreso fundamentada en la capacidad científico-técnica para manejar la biosfera sin considerar sus límites biofísicos. La política climática articulada hasta ahora apenas ha considerado las dimensiones éticas y sociales del calentamiento global y, además, ha sido objetivamente ineficaz. La amenaza climática plantea retos de justicia sincrónica, derivada de la responsabilidad diferencial en sus causas de cada sociedad y de la distinta vulnerabilidad ante sus consecuencias de los grupos humanos con menos recursos para su autoprotección. Y plantea retos de justicia diacrónica, en la medida en que un planeta recalentado va a limitar las posibilidades de las generaciones más jóvenes y de las que están por venir, para tener una vida digna. El timing de la crisis climática obliga a una acción educativa urgente y de emergencia, que sitúe este problema en el centro del currículum y de las prácticas educadoras fuera del sistema educativo. La controversia moral debe ser un elemento central en una Educación para en Cambio Climático cuyo imperativo ético y práctico es la descarbonización de las sociedades y de los estilos de vida, de la escala individual a la escala global.

  The anthropic alteration of the climate constitutes the main challenge for humanity in the 21st century. How it acts in the next decade will depend on minimizing its impact on current human civilization. Educational responses and tools must be part of mitigation and adaptation policies in the face of the climate crisis, as recognized in international organizations and declarations. This challenge forces us to rethink the ethical framework of educational praxis to question the environmental and social sustainability of the core values that have guided human development since the beginning of modernity. The climate crisis radically questions the identification between growth and development. It also shows that the eco-dependent condition of our species has been ignored for the sake of a notion of progress based on the scientific-technical capacity to manage the biosphere without considering its biophysical limits. The climate policy articulated so far has barely considered the ethical and social dimensions of global warming and, moreover, has been objectively ineffective. The climate threat poses challenges of synchronous justice, derived from the differential responsibility in its causes of each society and the different vulnerability to its consequences of human groups with fewer resources for self-protection. And it poses diachronic justice challenges, to the extent that an overheated planet will limit the possibilities of younger generations and those that are to come, to have a decent life. The timing of the climate crisis forces an urgent and emergency educational action, which places this problem at the center of the curriculum and of the educational practices outside the educational system. Moral controversy must be a central element in an Education for Climate Change whose ethical and practical imperative is the decarbonization of societies and lifestyles, from the individual scale to the global scale.
