Game-based instructional design has emerged in recent years as a contemporary teaching supplement for the organic chemistry classroom. Among the suite of games published in the literature is CHEMCompete, a card game designed to help students understand the substitution and elimination reactions of alkyl halides; it was an effective learning tool for undergraduate students. CHEMCompete-II, an educational card game that integrates the benefits of group-based discussion with the substitution and elimination reactions of alcohols, is described. Data from quiz scores and survey responses suggest that CHEMCompete-II is an effective instructional resource for students to master the fundamentals of the reactions of alcohols and their mechanisms.
