Recent progress in sensor networks and wireless systems provides serious difficulties to the higher education community for teaching these technologies. The complexity is so high that no practical work content is normally found in the related learning process. In this paper, a novel platform is presented for teaching Bluetooth–based wireless sensor networks and embedded systems. The system is based on a commercial “Open Hardware” device called Openmoko, a personal computer and a suite of software applications, with the objective of introducing a learner–centre approach in aforementioned fields, based on laboratory works in subjects assigned to the Telecommunication Engineering degree and the Electronic Engineering Department of the University of Seville
