The presence of Brazilian popular music outside Brazil is a phenomenon in constant rise since the 1990s. In the case of the city of Oporto (Portugal), this is manly noticeable in night bars located in the most touristic area of the city, usually called “Baixa do Porto” (Downtown Oporto). The presence of this reality in the night events of this region prompts the emergence of an imaginary of Brazilianness, promoted through the practice of two Brazilian musical genres: the samba and forró. In this context, this paper explores the ways in which this imaginary is constructed in the areas of nightly sociability of the “Baixa do Porto”, more specifically in those places marked by the above two Brazilian sonorities
