    El trabajo analiza algunos aspectos de la traducción en lengua española de la Comedia dantesca de Bartolomé Mitre, cuya editio princeps apareció en 1894. A partir del estudio del prefacio, titulado Teoría del traductor, se profundiza en la poética de la traducción de Mitre, fundada en primer lugar en el respeto de la forma estrófica, métrica y rítmica del prototexto. De notable interés aparece la postura del traductor bajo el aspecto lingüístico: en particular, se examina su teoría según la cual el castellano ideal de una traducción de la Comedia debería aproximarse a la lengua de las grandes auctoritates poéticas de la Castilla del siglo xv. Luego, a través del cotejo entre algunos fragmentos de Malebolge en el prototexto y en la traducción, se analizan las modalidades con que Mitre intentó recrear en castellano la palabra poética de Dante.

    This article analyses some of the most important aspects of Bartolomé Mitre’s Spanish translation of Dante’s Comedy, published for the first time in 1894. Starting with a study of the preface, entitled Teoría del traductor, the essay will focus on Mitre’s translation theory, mainly based on respect for the rhyme, meter and rhythm of the prototext. Since the translator appears to be profoundly interested in its linguistic aspects, special attention will be paid to the analysis of Mitre’s theory according to which the ideal Spanish of the translation should approximate the language of the most important auctoritates of the xv century. Finally, by means of the comparison between the prototext and the translation of some excerpts of Malebolge, the work will analyze the methods through which Mitre tried to recreate in Spanish Dante’s poetic word.
