Validez y confiabilidad del Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) en estudiantes universitarios chilenos

    El presente estudio está dirigido a evaluar las propiedades psicométricas del Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS; Watson, Clark, & Tellegen, 1988), una de las medidas de afectividad más utilizadas en la investigación internacional, en una muestra de estudiantes chilenos, con la expectativa de encontrar resultados que estén en línea con el reporte original de validación. Luego de traducir el instrumento se condujo un estudio piloto cuyos resultados orientaron la elaboración de una versión definitiva del PANAS, aplicada a una muestra de estudiantes de pregrado de diferentes carreras universitarias (n = 437). Los resultados muestran que la confiabilidad del PANAS obtenida mediante el análisis de la consistencia interna y el test-retest, así como su validez factorial y externa, son apropiados y concordantes con la evidencia previa. Ello permite concluir que el PANAS cumple con los requisitos psicométricos establecidos para su utilización en el contexto evaluado.

    The present study is focused on the assessment of the psychometric properties of the Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS; Watson, Clark, & Tellegen, 1988), one of the most recurring affectivity measures in international research, in a Chilean college sample, aiming at confirming the findings reported on the original validation study. After a backward translation of the instrument from English-to-Spanish, a pilot study was conducted which results oriented the elaboration of the final version of the PANAS, applied to a college sample of different careers (n = 437). The results yielded appropriate internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the PANAS, in agreement with the previous evidence. This allows concluding that the PANAS is in line with the psychometric requirements established for its application in the validation context.
