Fotogramas y pantallas.: La imagen a la luz de la palabra, y vice-versa

    Como contraparte de la desmaterialización de la fotografía y la creación mediante algoritmos de imágenes que no necesitan imprimirse sobre ninguna superficie para hacerse visibles, surgió un buen número de obras críticas que buscaron reponer la materialidad e invocar al objeto en su carácter físico. Este trabajo se propone abordar algunas obras que pueden inscribirse en esa línea, y que son fundamentalmente autorreferenciales en tanto refieren su origen, su funcionamiento y significación cultural, o su relación de semejanza/diferencia con la comunicación verbal. Este texto se abocará al análisis de piezas realizadas a partir de la técnica del fotograma y otras que evidencian las pantallas como lugar de aparición y como objeto de mediación a través del cual la imagen, intangible, se hace visible. Si cabe invocar el origen etimológico de “fotografía” en obras que contravienen la hibridación que adviene con lo digital, será para pensar en la escritura textual que aparece a través de la luz de la fotografía. Esa será la guía para analizar cuestiones de orden comparativo entre textos e imágenes, sus correspondencias, la imposibilidad de traducción, y las tensiones entre el contenido semántico y la visibilidad de la palabra hecha imagen.

    In response to the de-materialisation of photography and to the creation of images via algorithms not necessarily printed to be seen, last years have witnessed the emergence of a number of critical artworks seeking to recover a material nature and invoking the physical appearance of objects. This article aims to address some artworks in this line which are self-referenced as they allude either to their own origin, functioning and cultural meaning, either to their similarities to or differences with verbal communication. This article focuses on items made using the photogram technique as well as on some pieces made for on-screen display through which the intangible image becomes visible. Whether the etymological origin of the word “photography” could be recalled in artworks subverting the hybridization brought by the digital era, it would be to think about the written word that appears through the lens of photography. This will guide the comparative analysis between text and image, their correlation, the impossible translation of one into another and tensions between semantical contents and words materialised as images.
