Taking "Los abrazos rotos" as its starting point, this chapter makes use of the thematic recurrence of hospitals and hospital settings in Almodóvar's most recent films in order to analyze the specific contribution of the art department. The chapter goes into greater detail about this process in the section devoted to hospitals. It focuses more specifically on the various hospital installations used and the demands made of Gomez as art director and production designer, especially in the five medical locations of Los abrazos rotos, which had so many different subtextual nuances to transmit.
