    O circo é um repositório de significados, imagens, representações, dentre as quais se destaca a de sua arquitetura nômade; símbolo de uma cultura viajante cuja eficácia consiste em, temporariamente, se misturar à paisagem local. Ao longo do tempo assistimos a edificação de vários estilos de arquitetura circense que, de um lado, parecem acompanhar as mudanças de significado dessa cultura, do outro, revelam um modo singular de habitar o mundo. Sem pretender realizar uma historia do circo no Brasil, a análise se desenvolve a partir das memórias circenses registradas em narrativas escritas, orais e visuais, nos fornecendo uma visão panorâmica das arquiteturas e dos espetáculos de circo em conformidade com o ambiente e as mudanças históricas ocorridas ao longo do século XX.

    The circus is a repository of meanings, images, representations, within which stand out the circus nomad architecture, a symbol of a traveling culture whose efficiency consists, temporarily, in mixing itself with the local scenery. Over time, we have been watching the edification of different Architecture styles, as well as circus spectacles, which, for one hand, seem to follow the changes in the meaning of that culture, and on the other hand, it reveals a unique manner to inhabit the world. Based on circus memories registered in written, oral, and visual narratives, which are our source at this moment, we seek to develop a social-historical interpretation of the circus in which are detached the main “ideal typical” characteristics of its architectures/spectacles, and the manners of organizing the work. The objective is to show a panoramic vision of the circus related to the environment and the historical changes occurred in Brazil in the Twentieth Century.
