    Este ensayo explora un curso sobre la historia del edificio del Instituto Internacional sito en la calle Miguel Ángel, 8 en Madrid, “If these walls could speak: Reading Miguel Ángel, 8”. El curso proponía un acercamiento artístico a la historia en el que el espacio fuera el protagonista, mediante un proceso basado en, por un lado, el contacto directo con el espacio y, por otro, el estudio de fotografías antiguas, todo ello en combinación con el uso de fuentes primarias textuales. De esta manera, se buscaba ver y poner de relieve las huellas del pasado en las superficies del presente, para construir una mirada que nos ayudara a ubicarnos en el espacio y el tiempo.

    This essay explores a course on the history of the building of the International Institute in Spain, located at calle Miguel Ángel, 8 in Madrid. The course, titled, “If these walls could speak: Reading Miguel Ángel, 8” proposed an artistic approach to history wherein space took center stage, through a process that was based, on the one hand, on direct contact with the space and, on the other, on studying old photographs, in combination with primary textual sources. In this way, the goal was to see and bring forth the traces of the past on the surfaces of the present, in order to construct a gaze that could help us locate ourselves in space and time.
