    La presente investigación ofrece un paralelismo a la tradicional historia del arte. A través del espejo y de las representaciones del mismo en la pintura, como espectadores, podemos conocer infinidad de información sobre el autor y su tiempo.

    También, fijando la atención en los objetos circundantes, hallaremos lecturas aparentemente ocultas de la obra en sí. Este marco cronológico, la Edad Moderna, resulta el periodo en el que más completa e interesante fue la producción de éste tipo de imágenes coetáneas al desarrollo de la perspectiva. Para ello, se exponen casos de estudio estructurados según los diferentes géneros artísticos, no sin antes analizar la historia del espejo y la evolución de las connotaciones asociadas al mismo..

    This research offers a parallelism to the traditional history of art. Through the mirror and its representations in painting we can, as viewers, find plenty of information about the author and his time. Also, paying attention to the surrounding objects, we will find apparently hidden interpretations of the work itself. This time frame, the Modern Age, is the period when the production of this type of image was most complete and interesting, and coeval to the development of perspective. Consequently, the present case studies are structured according to different artistic genres, but not without previously analysing the mirror’s history and the evolution of the connotations associated with it
