Reitin discusses the use of virtual manipulatives (VMs) to promote the understanding of mathematics students. VM is an interactive online visual representation of a dynamic object that presents opportunities to construct mathematical knowledge. The use of VM in small-group activities is effective in promoting the development of conceptual understanding much better than have teacher demonstrations.
