Introduction. The objective of this paper is to show the use of competitive intelligence applications developed by the graduate students of Humboldt International University (HIU) and how competitive intelligence generally leads to organizational intelligence.
Methodology: The results are reached through the critical hermeneutic approach to organizational intelligence, text mining with Atlas.ti, and the analysis of 55 case studies derived from the Competitive Intelligence courses taught at HIU in the period 2014-2016.
Result: It was proven that: A) competitive intelligence solutions depend on the object to which it is applied, the scope of its use and the conditions in which it originated. B) Those solutions reflect the organizational capability of information management and analysis for decision-making. This is, competitive intelligence contributes directly to organizational intelligence instead of being a totally different approach.
Conclusions: The results allow elucidating the nature of competitive intelligence in its organizational dimension, and the convenience of using them both holistically in teaching activities and in consulting practice.
