Los referentes culturales en la narrativa de Tawfīq al-Ḥakīm: análisis de las técnicas de traducción relacionadas con la comida y la vestimenta

    Nuestro objetivo es realizar un análisis cuantitativo de las técnicas de traducción aplicadas en el trasvase al español de los referentes culturales relativos a la comida y la vestimenta en dos novelas de Tawfīq al-Ḥakīm. Los traductores ofrecen textos que no se caracterizan por una gran dosis de extranjerización. Se percibe un equilibrio entre las técnicas que representan la máxima manifestación de la extranjerización y la domesticación: el préstamo y la adaptación. Comparando los datos, observamos ciertas diferencias entre las dos traducciones. Así, dentro de las técnicas de extranjerización, uno de los traductores prefiere recurrir al préstamo, mientras que el otro se decanta a favor del equivalente acuñado. En cuanto al grado de transgresión de las formas de expresión propias de la lengua de llegada, observamos un evidente carácter conservador en Diario de un fiscal rural, frente a un uso del lenguaje más atrevido y transgresor en El despertar de un pueblo. Los datos van en consonancia con lo que ambos traductores anuncian en sus respectivas introducciones.

    Our objective is to carry out a quantitative analysis of the translation techniques applied during the transfer to Spanish of the cultural references related to food and clothing in two novels of Tawfīq al-Ḥakīm. Translators offer texts that are not characterized by a large dose of foreignization. There is a balance between the techniques that represent the maximum manifestation of foreignization and domestication: the loan and adaptation. Comparing the data, we observe certain differences between the two translations. Thus, within the techniques of foreignization one of the translators prefers to resort to the loan, while the other opts in favour of the coined equivalent. Regarding the degree of transgression of the forms of expression of the arrival language, we observe an obvious conservative character in Diario de un fiscal rural, against a more daring and transgressor language use in El despertar de un pueblo. The data is in line with what both translators announce in their respective introductions.
