Resumen de Camp Betty, un caso interesante para la semiotica de las culturas

Este trabajo analiza dos problemas: la definición cultural de la fealdad, tema central en la serie Betty la fea; y las modalidades a través de las cuales hoy se ‘traduce’, a nivel internacional, un scripted format serial. En ambos casos, se trata de considerar de qué manera el contexto cultural determina en profundidad el significado de un objeto. Analizaré el producto estadounidense, a partir de algunas comparaciones con las versiones mexicana, española y alemana.

This article examines two problems: the cultural definition of ‘ugliness’ –central theme of the television programme Betty la fea / ugly betty– and the ways in which a scripted format serial, is translated nowadays in different countries. In both cases, the aim of the analysis is to consider how each cultural context deeply shapes the meaning of a cultural artefact. I will focus mainly on the us series, but my study will also include some comparisons with the mexican, the spanish and the german versions.
