  • When writing the sequential steps of a proof, as when traveling the sequential legs of a trip, we avoid wrong turns and promote progress efficiency by planning in advance, beginning with the destination and working backward to a given starting point. When writing a proof, paper-and-pencil scratch work constitutes the plan.
