The proof of the intuitive principle that states that uncertainty decreases as the number of observations increases and the quantification of the learning process were obtained by de Moivre. However, the solution to the problem of the causes was obtained only when Price, from the generalized Bayes theorem, succeeded in broadening the scope of the mathematical theory of probability as an argument to support a rigorous theory of inductive inference and refute Hume's skepticism.
