Visões sobre a natureza da ciência construídas a partir do uso de um texto histórico na escola média

    The study below reports an investigation from a history of science text used in high school classes of a public school in São Paulo. The referred text reports the concern of a scientist of the 18th century about the nature of heat, once the current theory at that time (caloric) could not satisfactorily explain how heat could be generated by friction between two metallic materials. The text activity was proposed by open discussion between the teacher and the students. From the filming of oral interactions, reading of the historical text and texts written by students, we investigated three epistemological characteristics of scientific knowledge that we believe have reached consensus among philosophers of science, as follows: (A) Science as a human activity; (B) The temporary character of scientific knowledge; (C) Historical view and the science issue. We have concluded that the use of history of science, combined with an open and investigative perspective, emphasizes important elements on the nature of scientific knowledge, usually ignored in teaching, that are essential in the construction of a a more realistic and less dogmatic view of the referred knowledge.

    O trabalho abaixo apresentado relata uma investigação a partir do uso de um texto de história da ciência em salas de aula de ensino médio de uma escola pública em São Paulo. Este texto relata as dúvidas de um cientista do século XVIII sobre a natureza do calor, uma vez que a teoria existente na época (calórico) não era suficiente para explicar como o calor poderia provir do atrito entre dois materiais metálicos. A atividade com o texto foi proposta através de uma discussão aberta e dialogada entre o professor e os alunos. A partir da filmagem das interações orais, da leitura do texto histórico e de textos escritos pelos estudantes, investigamos o aparecimento de três características epistemológicas do conhecimento científico que consideramos consensuais entre os filósofos da ciência. São elas: (A) A ciência vista com atividade humana; (B) O caráter provisório do conhecimento científico; (C) Visão histórica e problemática da ciência. Concluímos que o uso da história da ciência, aliado a uma perspectiva aberta e investigativa, ressalta elementos importantes sobre a natureza do conhecimento científico que geralmente são ignorados no ensino e que são essenciais para a construção de uma visão mais realista e menos dogmática deste conhecimento.
