    Looking back over the history of the French Annales school, one enduring trait clearly emerges : attentiveness to what is happening in other disciplines and the appropriation of concepts promoted by sister sciences. This transdisciplinarity could almost be the school’s visiting card. A shift can nevertheless be discerned between the early years, when ideas captured from outside the school’s historic discipline tended to be the most changeable and adaptable, and the period that began at the “critical turning point” in 1988, which ushered in the practice of interdisciplinarity predicated on a historical identity that was founded on the plurality of reasoning over time.

    En retraçant le parcours de l’école historique française, dite des Annales, on constate à quel point il y a un trait permanent qui consiste en une écoute de ce qui se passe dans les autres disciplines et en une appropriation des concepts portées par les sciences-sœurs. Cette transdisciplinarité est presque la carte d’identité des Annales. On peut néanmoins saisir une inflexion entre les premiers temps où la captation des notions extérieures à la discipline historique portait sur des notions les plus labiles, habillant au plus large et la période qui s’ouvre depuis 1988, celle du « tournant critique », où l’interdisciplinarité se pratique à partir de l’affirmation d’une identité historienne fondée sur la pluralité des logiques temporelles.
