    El motivo de los confi nes orientales de Polonia es uno de los más recurrentes en la literatura polaca desde la época del romanticismo. A partir de los años ochenta del siglo XX algunos críticos empiezan a hablar de la corriente de los confines orientales en la literatura polaca y en los estudios literarios aparecen con frecuencia expresiones como “el mito de los confines orientales en la literatura polaca” o bien “los confines orientales como mito de la cultura (o de la literatura) polaca”. El presente artículo se propone establecer el signifi cado del concepto del “mito de los confines orientales” que le otorgan diferentes críticos polacos con el fin de encontrar un núcleo común que permita formular una definición del término.

    The theme of the eastern borderlands of Poland is one of the most recurrent motifs in Polish literature from the Romantic era onwards. From the 1980s, certain critics began to speak of the ‘current’ of the eastern borderlands in Polish literature, and in literary studies it became common to fi nd expressions such as ‘the myth of the eastern borderlands in Polish literature’, or ‘the eastern borderlands as a myth of Polish culture (or literature).’ The present article aims to establish the meaning attributed to the concept of ‘the myth of the eastern borderlands’ by various Polish critics, with the objective of fi nding a common nucleus which might allow us to formulate a defi nition of the term.
