Resumen de ¿Cómo canta el río? Interpretar la onomatopeya japonesa en una obra infantil

  En este trabajo analizamos algunos de los procesos de interpretacion que han de desarrollarse cuando se aborda la traduccion de las expresiones onomatopeyicas japonesas, con frecuencia acusadas de altamente intraducibles por su indeterminacion, dinamicidad e interpretacion libre por el receptor. Nuestro objetivo es reflexionar sobre la capacidad de analisis linguistico y literario que el traductor precisa cuando trata estas unidades, incluso en un texto que en apariencia se presenta simple, como es un cuento infantil. Para ello tomamos la obra Kusahara (2008), de Yukiko Kat..

  Partiendo de una presentacion de las onomatopeyas japonesas, estudiamos las unidades presentes en el texto. A traves de varios ejemplos, tratamos principalmente el neologismo, la derivacion y la omision verbal. Aunque este trabajo aborda unicamente la interpretacion y las consideraciones linguisticas que posteriormente conducen al proceso de produccion en la lengua meta, tambien presentamos traducciones que ofrecen las publicaciones en ingles, italiano y frances.

  In this paper we analyse the interpreting processes used in the translation of Japanese onomatopoeic expressions, which are often labelled as being highly untranslatable due to their vagueness, dynamism and the recipient's loose interpretation of them. Our objective is to reflect on the capacity of linguistic and literary analysis which the translator requires when dealing with them, even when one particular work may apparently seem simple, such as a children's story: Yukiko Kato's Kusahara (2008).

  Starting off with an introduction to Japanese onomatopoeias, we study the expressions present in the text. Using several examples, we specifically tackle neologisms, derived forms and verbal omissions. In this paper we deal exclusively with the interpreting process and linguistic considerations that subsequently open the way towards the production process. Although we are not dealing with the creative task of translation, however, we offer a few solutions found in the English, Italian and French versions.
