    El trabajo que presentamos intenta valorar el peso de dos elementos básicos del Sistema Atlántico espa- ñol en el tránsito del siglo XVII al XVIII. De un lado, el tráfico de esclavos entre África y América, objeto de una ingente producción historiográfica. De otro, la economía del tabaco. Pretendemos poner en evidencia la relación existente entre la trata de esclavos en la época de los asientos internacionales con participación de la Corona espa- ñola y el desarrollo americano del estanco del tabaco español, que se inicia en la isla de Cuba.

    The present article considers the importance of two basic elements within the Sistema Atlántico español (Spanish Atlantic System) toward the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century. On the one hand we have the slave trade between Africa and America, which has been extensively studied, and on the other hand we have the tobacco trade. We aim to evidence the existing relationship between human traffic carried out with collaboration of the Spanish Royalty, as well as the American development of the Spanish tobacco estanco at the time of the international asientos.
