    A la sombra del conflicto que asoló la región de los Balcanes durante la década de los años noventa, Erica Pedretti, escritora suiza de origen checo, realizó una necesaria revisión de los acontecimientos que dictaron el destino de la población alemana en las provincias de Moravia y Bohemia tras el final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, sumándose al mismo tiempo al debate en torno a la dificultad de la materialización del recuerdo como imagen en el texto escrito. El retorno al propio pasado y el diálogo entre el recuerdo y su imagen en el presente son temas recurrentes en la narrativa de Pedretti, si bien Engste Heimat resulta un ejemplo especialmente significativo tanto por el momento histórico en el que la novela fue escrita, como por su interesante estructura narrativa.

    In the shadow of the conflict that devastated the Balkans during the nineties, the Czech born Swiss writer Erica Pedretti made an essential review of the events that forged the destiny of the German population in the provinces of Moravia and Bohemia after the Second World War, joining the debate on the problem of materialising memory as image in the written text. Returning to the past and the dialogue between memory and its image in the present are recurring themes in Pedretti’s narrative, although Engste Heimat is an especially significant example, both for the moment in history when the novel was written and for its interesting narrative structure.
