    Este artículo realiza un análisis de las artes escénicas como instrumento de valoración del patrimonio cultural y elemento de la oferta turística del municipio de Alcântara, Maranhão. Utiliza la investigación bibliográfica abordando el teatro urbano como alternativa para la resignificación de los espacios en la ciudad y elemento generador de experiencias enriquecedoras tanto para el visitante como para los pobladores. El estudio toma el espacio urbano de Alcântara como objeto de investigación indicando a partir de las memorias, historias y leyendas locales posibilidades de intervenciones artísticas y actividades culturales para fortalecer el incipiente turismo local. El estudio resalta la necesidad de involucrar a la población en la creación de productos turísticos temáticos de forma de asegurar la sustentabilidad del patrimonio local.

    Urban Theatre as Tourist Experience: analysis of the potential of the city of Alcântara, Maranhão (Brazil). Analysis of the performing arts as a tool for enhancement of cultural heritage and tourism element of the city of Alcântara, Maranhão. Uses literature, addressing the urban theater as an alternative to the redefinition of the spaces in the city and suscitador element of enriching experiences for both visitors as well as for the residents. The study takes the urban Alcântara as research object, pointing from the memories, stories and local legends, possibilities of artistic interventions and cultural activities to strengthen the fledgling local tourism. The research highlights the need for community involvement in the preparation of thematic tourism products in order to ensure the sustainability of the local heritage.
