This paper aims to show how a parallel corpus – initially designed to investigate practices of translating children’s fantasy literature – can be used in the translator education environment. It suggests that the hard evidence produced by such corpus can provide trainee students with useful “points of orientation” for the treatment of names in translating children’s fantasy literature. PEPCOCFL – The Portuguese-English Parallel Corpus of Children’s Fantasy Literature – is used to illustrate how this can be achieved. Additionally, a tentative typology is offered so as to help students to classify the procedures most commonly used by four professional translators when dealing with names.
