Resumen de La unidad francesa truc o la vaguedad semántica desde una perspectiva argumentativa y traductológica

Montserrat Cunillera Domènech

  • Some lexical units, despite appearing in a particular context, have fuzzy semantic borders, which are rather difficult to interpret and which make them difficult to translate into other languages. This vagueness inherent to certain words may additionally be associated with a positive, negative or neutral point of view, which hints at the speaker's attitude regarding the subject he is talking about. Based on conceptual tools taken from the Theory of Argumentation within Language, according to Anscombre and Ducrot, and from the Semantics of Points of View, according to Raccah, the aim of the present study is to reflect upon the importance of identifying crystallized points of view in the words of lexicon in order to take them into account when it comes to translating a text from one language into another. Therefore, using as our starting point a contrastive analysis of the French word unit truc and its translations into Spanish and Catalan in a literary corpus, we mean to identify the basic semantic instructions of the lexical expressions propounded as equivalents of truc in the target texts. From this we can determine the consequences of their use in constructing meaning in the new text.
