Ana Mendieta: performance a la manera de los primitivos

    Las interpretaciones sobre las obras de Ana Mendieta suelen ofrecer una lectura típica adscrita a su biografía y su legado bibliográfico. Aparece como artista de la performance ritual junto a artistas como los accionistas vieneses, con justificaciones hacia la psicología de Sigmund Freud o hacia la sociología de Erwin Goffman. Sin embargo, centrándonos en la especial percepción que tiene de un arte real y mágico, en el año 1972, introducimos a Mendieta en la corriente primitivista de la segunda mitad del siglo XX como una forma de hacer arte a la manera de los primitivos. Esto supone que el punto de vista sobre la performance de Mendieta necesita ser redefinido: proponemos una convergencia entre antropología, teatro y performance, iniciando el análisis desde la dualidad presente en el drama social defendido por Víctor Turner. Por lo tanto, la performance de Ana Mendieta presentaría dos procesos o estados que se distinguen respecto al significante.

    �The interpretations of Ana Mendieta´s works usually provide a typical reading related to her biography and her bibliographic legacy. She appears as a ritual and performance artist alongside other artists such as the Vienna Actionists, and her work has been often justified through to Sigmund Freud�s psychology or Erwin Goffman�s sociology. However, focusing on the special perception of her real and magic art, from 1972, we introduce Mendieta within a Primitivistc- movement from the second half of the twentieth century as an art form that functions of in the way of the primitive. Therefore, a redefinition of Mendieta�s performance is required: in this paper, we suggest a convergence between anthropology, theatre and performance, starting with the analysis on the duality in social drama defended by Victor Turner. Therefore, the performance of Ana Mendieta would present two processes or states that are distinguished from the signifier
