    El epitafio del obispo García I es el más antiguo testimonio epigráfico que se conserva en la Catedral de Cuenca y en su obispado. Su estado actual impide leerlo en su totalidad, y por ello se suele recurrir a las ediciones antiguas de su texto, que datan del siglo XVII. Estas ediciones presentan algunas deficiencias, la principal es que sus autores no han percibido que el epitafio está escrito en verso y no en prosa. La métrica aporta datos muy interesantes para la reconstrucción de partes del texto dañadas y se revela como un instrumento de gran valor para el estudio de la epigrafía.

    The epitaph for Garcia I is the most ancient epigraphic evidence in the Cathedral of Cuenca. Its present-day condition doesn't allow to reed its text completely, and because of this, the evidence of the oldest editions of its text, of the XVII century, has been very important. These editions have some deficiencies: the most important is that their authors didn't detect that this epitaph is written in verse and not in prose. Metrics gives us very interesting evidences for the reconstruction of the text damnaged and reveals as a very useful tool for the study of the epigraphy.
