  • Resumen
    • Starting from the description of the conjunction 'o' in Italian dictionaries (it can be read as "exclusive", "inclusive", "reformulating", "of negative consequence", etc.), this paper will demonstrate that the different usages of the conjunction are associated with specific syntactic, intonational and punctuation patterns of the construction 'A o B', and show how such privileged patterns can explain those usages. This paper also demonstrates how a careful analysis of the linguistic manifestations of the conjunction 'o' allows one to reconsider the paradigm of the various usages typically attributed to the conjunction, by making some semantic categories more compact and others more articulated. On this second point, the analysis will concentrate on the reformulating function of the alternative introduced by the conjunction 'o'.
