  • The object of the study are the fixed comparisons in the portuguese language and their functional equivalents in the Bulgarian one. The factors that had determined the choice of this theme are of theoretical and practical order. The fixed comparisons, also known as traditional comparisons represent a considering part of the portuguese phraseological unities, but they have not been analysed in the portuguese lexicology and phraseology. The aim of the study is to do a collection of data of the fixed comparisons in the portuguese language and to determine their functional equivalents in the Bulgarian one, focalizing the complete or partial symmetry in their semantic structures. The present study must be of practical usefulness on the teaching of the Portuguese language to Bulgarian students, in the translation of literary works from the Portuguese to the Bulgarian language and in the composition of phraseological monolingual or bilingual dictionaries
