This article examines the difficulties Italian learners can run into when they have to do with participles and participial constructions in German monolingual dictionaries. The entries of the Langenscheidls Großwörterbuches Deutsch als Fremdsprache, of the Duden-Deutsches Universalwörterbuch and of the Wharig Wörterbuches der deutschen Sprache will be compared as regards their grammar content, the usefulness of their definitions and the coherence of their headwords.
