    El artículo pretende exponer la filosofía de la educación que se encuentra presente en el pensamiento de William James. Se mantiene que, paralelamente al auge del interés en el mundo educativo por el pragmatismo americano clásico, el estudio de la obra William James sufre una cierta falta de atención.

    Tras presentar un estado de la cuestión sobre los núcleos temáticos de los que se han ocupado los trabajos que estudian a James desde una perspectiva pedagógica, el artículo avanza en la presentación de otros temas que han sido menos estudiados. Concretamente, el artículo se ocupa de la inspiración que ofrece la imagen del «tactful teacher» y de la filosofía de la educación moral inscrita en el estudio de los estados psicológicos que James desarrollase. Ambos temas dan cuenta del potencial pedagógico que queda aún por desvelar en la obra de este filósofo.

    The article seeks to present the philosophy of education that is at the very heart of William James´s legacy. It is argued that along with the rise of interest in the field of education towards classic American pragmatism, the study of William James has suffered from a lack of attention. After giving an accurate overview of the themes under debate in those few works which have addressed James´s thought from a pedagogical perspective, the article progresses on discussing some other educational themes which have gone unnoticed. More precisely, first, the inspiration offered by the image of the «tactful teacher» and,second, the philosophy of moral education that is part of James`s works on psychology. Both themes account for the pedagogical potential that continues to be hidden in the work of this philosopher.
