The specificity of cooperative societies is not so much justified by their mainly mutualista management but by the fact that they are business initiatives run by a group of people, who regardless of the share capital to be contributed by each partner, aim to meet their needs by retrieving the form of personal enterprise and the internal democratic functioning. This is a business model fostered by cooperative principles which are but guidellines by which cooperatives put their values into practice. However, in our view, what matters is that in the current context of growing concern about ethics in business organisations, channelled through the so-called Corporate Social Responsability (CSR), the parallel between the CSR philosophy and cooperative identity is evidente.
Cooperative structurally integrate other stakeholder interests and take up spontaneous social and civil responsibilities
