Resumen de �Las palabras servían para ese fin�: la literatura y el mal en 2666 de Roberto Bolaño
In this article, I intend to demonstrate the strong ties existing between literature and evil in Bolaño's posthumous novel, 2666. Therefore I focus on the story of Leo Sammer, an officer of the Nazi regime who confesses his collaboration in the Holocaust to Hans Reiter, the protagonist of �La parte de Archimboldi�. These 20 pages show a method frequently used by Bolaño to narrate the unsayable: through use of the ellipsis the author creates the distance necessary for the narration of evil. By turning to the same discursive methods used by the totalitarian regime - euphemism, insinuation and silence - the author demonstrates that language necessarily has to be violated to represent evil. On the other hand, through silence, Bolaño succeeds in approaching the reality of the traumatic event.
