In this article, I intend to demonstrate the strong ties existing between literature and evil in Bolaño's posthumous novel, 2666. Therefore I focus on the story of Leo Sammer, an officer of the Nazi regime who confesses his collaboration in the Holocaust to Hans Reiter, the protagonist of La parte de Archimboldi. These 20 pages show a method frequently used by Bolaño to narrate the unsayable: through use of the ellipsis the author creates the distance necessary for the narration of evil. By turning to the same discursive methods used by the totalitarian regime - euphemism, insinuation and silence - the author demonstrates that language necessarily has to be violated to represent evil. On the other hand, through silence, Bolaño succeeds in approaching the reality of the traumatic event.
