    The following article observes that the Poética and the work about rhetoric Arte de hablar share numerous similarities in terms of their composition, argumentation and choice of ex-amples. Reason, knowledge, power of judgment and utility are revealed as the main princi- ples within these two texts. Intention and rationality are the key criteria for the assessment of speech. The imitation of the conversation of the royal courts can be compared with the poetic imitation of the models of the ancient literature. The power of judgement is facilitated by a consideration of time and place, as well as the development of civilization. The mental capacity for judgement enables the poet to choose other rhetorical devices in spontaneous conversation or poetic speech. It further enables the poet to introduce philosophical maxims and other didactic elements into poetry, whilst adorning them with rhetorical ornament.

    Im vorliegenden Artikel wird herausgestellt, dass Luzáns Poetik und Rhetorik in Aufbau, Argumentationsgang und Auswahl der Beispiele zahlreiche Parallelitäten aufweisen. Vernunft, Wissen, Urteilskraft und Nützlichkeit zeigen sich hierbei als die zentralen Prinzipien. So wird die Beurteilung des Sprechens von seiner Intention und seiner Vernünf- tigkeit abhängig gemacht. Dabei wird die rhetorische Imitation der Konversation der Fürstenhöfe mit der poetischen Imitation der Vorbilder der antiken Literatur vergleichbar. Die Urteilskraft hatte dabei jeweils die durch Ort und Zeit bedingten Unterschiede im zivilisatorischen Fortschritt zu berücksichtigen. Ihre Aufgabe war es auch, je nach spontaner Konversa- tion oder dichterischer Rede andere rhetorische Figuren auszuwählen und philosophische Maximen und andere belehrende Elemente in der Dichtung in angemessener Weise mit rheto- rischem Schmuck auszustatten.
