Los dragones de Valledupar. La conformación de un cuepo de milicias a finales del siglo XVIII: Vecinos "notables", milicias y redes sociales

    Esta investigación analiza el proceso de conformación de un cuerpo de Milicias a finales del período colonial, en un espacio de �frontera� del virreinato de la Nueva Granada: la ciudad de Valledupar, en el Caribe neogranadino. Luego de presentar un perfil de la oficialidad del Regimiento de milicias de Valledupar, a través del análisis de las �hojas de servicio�, se muestra la relación que existía entre este cuerpo estamental y los vecinos �notables� de la ciudad (quienes conformaban la oficialidad del Regimiento). Se busca indicar la manera en la cual, la pertenencia al fuero militar, reforzó las vinculaciones sociales de estos individuos, al tiempo que contribuyó en la generación de prácticas de gobernabilidad en el territorio.

    This article analyzes the process of creation of a Militia during the late colonial period, in a �frontier� in the Viceroyalty of New Granada: the city of Valledupar and its jurisdiction (province of Santa Marta), located on the hinterland of New Granada's Caribbean coast. After presenting a profile of the officialty, through the analysis of the �hojas de servicio�, is shown the relation that existed between the militia and the �notable� citizens of the city (who conformed the officialty of the Regiment). It is sought to indicate the way in which, the ownership to the military �fuero�, reinforced the social networks of these actors, at the same time that contributed in the practices of governability of the territory.
