    El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar los rasgos más significativos de ser �un buen profesional� en opinión de docentes y estudiantes de Ingeniería de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California en México. Se utilizaron técnicas de análisis cualitativas y cuantitativas que permitieron determinar que las competencias conformadas por las características de honestidad, responsabilidad y ética eran los más importantes. Sin embargo, se detectaron algunas discrepancias entre la opinión de docentes y estudiantes en los rasgos valorados. Se concluye que es conveniente y necesario evaluar la congruencia entre los objetivos de carreras tan relevantes como la ingeniería y los programas formativos reales de la universidad

    The objective of this study was to determine the most significant characteristics of "being a good professional� in the opinion of teachers and students of Engineering at the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California in México. Qualitative and quantitative techniques for analysis were used, which allow to determine that competences determined by the characteristics of honesty, responsibility and ethics, were the most important ones. However, some discrepancies between the opinion of students and professors in the evaluated characteristics. It is concluded that it is convenient and necessary to evaluate the agreement between the objectives of important careers such as engineering and the actual formative programs of the university.
