    Es una preocupación muy corriente en la actualidad el avance de las tendencias y comportamientos fanáticos, tanto así, que ocupan frecuentemente las primeras páginas de los diarios en todo el mundo, lo mismo que son el tema de muchas de nuestras conversaciones cotidianas. ¿Es esta una característica de nuestros tiempos, o simplemente un rasgo de la condición humana que permanece latente en los individuos y en nuestras sociedades esperando el momento propicio para hacer su aparición? Y, ¿cuál sería entonces su génesis? Estudiaremos aquí los factores presentes en el sujeto desde una perspectiva psicoanalítica e histórica, rastreando los conceptos hasta las fuentes de nuestra civilización y hasta la formación de los valores contemporáneos en los pensadores que fundaron la modernidad, y que se atrevieron a pensar y a actuar, incluso en contra de la tradición o de las instituciones de poder que la sostenían.

    The current spread of fanatic tendencies and fanatic behavior is a common cause of concern in as much as it appears to be on newspapers´ front page and in our daily conversations on a regular basis. Is this a characteristic of our times or simply a feature of human condition that remains latent in individuals and our societies only waiting for the right moment to be triggered? And if so, what is their genesis like? We will here on study the factors in the subject from a psychoanalytical and historical perspective, tracking the concepts back to the source of our civilization and up to the formation of contemporary values in those thinkers that founded modernity and who dared to think and act even against the tradition or the institutions that sustained it.
