    La corta estancia de Humboldt en las Islas Canarias supuso para muchos científicos e intelectuales de lengua alemana un «redescubrimiento» del Archipiélago y, así, por influencia directa o indirecta de Humboldt, viajaron a Canarias geólogos, botánicos, zoólogos, pintores e incluso juristas. Los testimonios que nos han legado tienen naturaleza eminentemente científica, aunque —siguiendo el ejemplo del prusiano— la mayoría de ellos se hace eco en sus obras de la deplorable situación social y económica en la que se encontraba la población insular. En nuestro trabajo analizamos la imagen del régimen señorial que ofrecen los viajeros del siglo XIX en Canarias y mostramos cómo centran su atención en problemas de los que ya Humboldt se había ocupado

    Humboldt’s short stay on the Canary Islands evoked to many German scientists a rediscovery of the archipelago. Directly and indirectly stimulated, geologists, botanists, zoologists, painters and even jurists visited the islands, completing Humboldt’s work in many areas. Their testimonies are merely scientific, although —following Humboldt’s example— the majority mentions the unfavorable economic and social situation of the local population. With our article we analyze the image which the almost feudal conditions had generated to the 19th century voyagers and would like to show that they paid attention in many cases to problems that Humboldt —the Prussian supporter of the French revolution— had mentioned yet
