La adaptación (¿o traducción?) cinematográfica de "Oneguin"

    Eugenio Oneguin de Pushkin es una obra central en el sistema literario ruso difícilmente adaptable al cine, tanto por sus características literarias como por sus connotaciones culturales. En 1999 los hermanos Fiennes hicieron una adaptación cinematográfica dirigida básicamente al público anglosajón. En el presente artículo se analiza la escena de la carta de Tatiana como ejemplo de este trasvase del sistema cultural ruso al inglés. En tanto que los Fiennes pretendían crear una película comprensible y verosímil, pero que también pareciera fiel al original ruso, tuvieron que «traducir» la novela con imágenes visuales y lingüísticas culturalmente reconocibles por el espectador anglosajón.

    Eugene Onegin by Pushkin is one of the main works in Russian literature, and is difficult to adapt to film because of its literary characteristics and cultural connotations. In 1999, the Fiennes made a film adaptation destined mainly to Anglo-Saxon audience. As the Fiennes� intention was to create a film that would be credible and understandable but, at the same time, not deprived of the fidelity with respect to its Russian original, they had to «translate» the novel by means of visual and linguistic images, culturally recognizable by Anglo-Saxon spectators. This paper analyzes the scene with Tatiana�s letter as an example of a transfer of the Russian cultural system to the English one.
