    El sistema de numeración maya era de base 20 con sub base 5, posicional y con uso del cero. En este ensayo se presentan algoritmos para las operaciones básicas de la aritmética: suma, resta, multiplicación y división, bajo el sistema de numeración empleado por los mayas. Se puede apreciar que los razonamientos para llevar a cabo las diferentes operaciones son iguales a los que realizamos en el sistema de numeración arábigo, con la diferencia, de que en el sistema de numeración maya no había necesidad de estudiar las tablas de multiplicar.

    The Mayan numeral system had a 20 base with 5 sub-base, positional and with use of cero. This essay offers some algorithms for the basic arithmetic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, using the numbering system employed by the Mayas. It can be noted that the reasoning used to solve the different operations are the same as in the Arabic numbering system, with the difference that in the Mayan numbers system there was no need to study multiplication tables.
