    Tras el fin de la Guerra Fría, el Mediterráneo adquirió una gran importancia para la OTAN y la Unión Europea. Esta relevancia se acrecentó tras los sucesos del 11-S y el 11-M, lo que obligó a estas dos organizaciones a redefinir su concepto geoestratégico y defensivo con respecto al Mediterráneo sur. Frontera común de dos países, España, miembro de la OTAN y la UE, y Marruecos, que aspira a serio.

    Just after the end of the cold war, the countries anrrounding the Mediterranean sea acquired a great importance for the NATO and the European Union. This importance was increased after the events occurred on the 11-S and 11-M. These two incidents forced those two organizations to redefine their geostrategic and defensive concepts concerning the Mediterranean south area, as a common frontier for two countries: Spain, as legitimate a member of the NATO and the EU, and Morocco, as a country that is trying to become an active member.
