En la enseñanza del Español como lengua extranjera se debe reconocer el papel que cumplen los géneros textuales para el análisis y el tratamiento documental. Por una parte, su uso en el aula determina el conocimiento previo y la comprensión posterior de cada estudiante. Por otra, el Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas: aprendizaje, enseñanza y evaluación propone un enfoque orientado a la acción, hecho que resuelven los géneros textuales que se adaptan al objetivo y a la situación comunicativa.

Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language validates the use of textual genres to be taken into account in documentary analysis. On one hand, the usage of these genres in the classroom shows the prior knowledge of the students as well as their comprehension after working with them. On the other hand, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment describes an action-oriented approach which is being kept up by textual genres related to the main objective of the text and the communicative situation.
